Memorial biography of James Ayer Jr. (1815-1891), born in Newfield, York County, Maine to James Ayer Sr. and Thirza Mason. James Jr. was a direct descendant in the seventh generation of immigrant John Ayer or Ever (d.1657), who immigrated from England to Salisbury, Massachu- setts by 1637, moving to Ipswich in 1646 and to Haverhill in 1647. James Jr. studied medicine in Boston, and married Martha Bourne in 1843. He practiced in Boston and also in outlying villages.
