历史

英军驻德始于二战后的盟军占领德国时期，规模随着冷战而逐渐扩大，发展到鼎盛时大致包含了 英国陆军第1军 （ 英语 ： I Corps (United Kingdom) ） （已解散）及4个师级部队：第1装甲师、第2装甲师、第3装甲师及第4装甲师。

随着冷战结束，莱茵集团军和 驻德皇家空军 （ 英语 ： Royal Air Force Germany ） （ RAFG ）遭到裁撤，使驻德英军的人数减少了近3万人 ，奥斯纳布吕克的基地也在2009年关闭 。

现况

驻德英军目前集中的北莱因－西发里亚、下萨克森两邦在二战结束时均位于前英国占领区的范围内。目前除第1装甲师师部所在的黑尔福德及临近的比勒费尔德外，居特斯洛、霍内及帕德博恩等地均有英军军营或住宅区等设施 ，另有莱茵驻屯区内的 莱茵达伦基地 （ 英语 ： JHQ Rheindahlen ） 。英军驻德估计每年替德国当地经济带来15亿欧元的增幅 。

德国及欧陆等地的英军驻外部队和人员，由英国驻德支援司令部（ United Kingdom Support Command (Germany) ， UKSC ）提供行政支援，该司令部亦直接管辖德国境内的4个英国陆军驻点 ，由一将官出任司令官，同时也兼任驻德英军联络处（ British Forces Liaison Organisation (Germany) ）最高负责人，该组织担任英军和德国当地各公私部门间的联络管道 。2012年1月成立驻德英军指挥部（ HQ BFG ），取代了英国支援司令部的角色 。

2012年8月后，驻德英军约有21,500名现役军人，加上文职人员和军眷后，则总共有40,000人。驻德英军第1装甲师配有挑战者2坦克、 战士型步兵战车 （ 英语 ： Warrior tracked armoured vehicle ） 、AS-90 Breveheart型榴弹炮、多管火箭炮、装甲运兵车、瞪羚直升机及山猫直升机 。

人员生活

英国三军广播服务（ BFBS ）的节目在德国大部分地区可以FM收听。

英国驻德陆军橄榄球队 （ 英语 ： British Army Germany rugby union team ） 定期和德国当地、比利时、丹麦、荷兰及卢森堡等国的橄榄球队举办比赛 。

在北爱尔兰问题达到高峰的年代，驻德英军人员于1988、1990年间曾成为 临时爱尔兰共和军 （ 英语 ： Provisional Irish Republican Army ） 的攻击目标，造成9人（含3名平民）身亡、多人受伤。这导致英国驻军人员的车辆不再使用军方车牌，以减少被锁定的概率 。
