个人经历

出生在新西兰摩林斯维的一个基督教友爱会的家庭，曼尼最初在威灵顿维多利亚大学学习心理学 ，他为了在匹兹堡大学精神病研究所学习在1947年移民到美国，他后来离开匹玆堡并在1952年在哈佛大学得到他的博士学位，他曾在1950年代短暂结婚但没有小孩。

曼尼是很早就是新西兰艺术的支持者，文学和视觉方面的都有，他是 珍娜·法兰姆 （ 英语 ： Janet Frame ） （Janet Frame）的著名朋友和支持者。在2002年，当他的帕金森氏症逐渐恶化时，他将自己的收藏很大的一部分捐给新西兰Eastern Southland美术馆。

曼尼在美国马里兰州的陶森住院治疗时过世。
