字母

曾使用古匈牙利字母，于基督教传入匈牙利王国后改用拉丁字母。匈牙利语字母表由拉丁字母组成，大匈牙利字母如下：

“Q”、“W”、“X”、“Y”只在外语词现（匈牙利人名中常见“W”和“Y”，分别读作“V”和“(J)I”）。有时人们会使用大匈牙利字母和小匈牙利字母分别代表有和没有“Q”、“W”、“X”、“Y”的字母表。

元音

a [ɒ]: 圆唇。和英式英语“o”的短音基本一样。

á [aː]：非圆唇。a的长音

ë [e]：仅在方言现。标准语（布达佩斯方言）做短音e。

e [ɛ]

é [eː]：e（及ë）的长音

i [i]

í [iː] i的长音

o [o]

ó [oː] o的长音

ö [ø]

ő [øː] ö的长音

u [u]

ú [uː] u的长音

ü [y]

ű [yː] ü的长音

辅音

没有特别标明的，读音同国际音标。

c [ʦ], dz[ʣ]

cs [ʨ], dzs [ʥ]

f, v

h （字头做[h]，字中做[ɦ]，字尾多数情况不发音，偶尔读作[x]或[ç]）

语法

匈牙利语属黏着语，并且有元音和谐律现象，和同属于芬兰—乌戈尔语族的芬兰语以及属于阿尔泰语系的（土耳其语、蒙古语）有很多相似性。匈牙利语名词有格的变化，并且格的变化多达20多种。另外表示所有格的词接在名词词尾并表示所有者，举例如下：

ház　（家）

ház-am　（我家）

ház-ad　（你家）

ház-a　（他（她）家）

ház-unk　（我们家）

ház-atok　（你们家）

ház-uk　（他（她）们家）

动词变位分为定变位和不定变位，如宾语是第三人称或宾语有定冠词，动词应定变位，其他情况动词要不定变位。
