经历

格里菲斯自普特尼中学（The Putney School）毕业于进入哈佛大学就读，于1964年获得学士学位、1966年获得硕士学位、1970年获得博士学位。他在理论粒子物理学家西德尼·科尔曼的指导下以博士论文《Covariant Approach to Massless Field Theory in the Radiation Gauge》获得学位。格里菲斯最为人所知的是他所著的三本获得极高评价的大学物理学教科书：《Introduction to Elementary Particles》（第一版1987年，第二版2008年）、《Introduction to Quantum Mechanics》（第一版1995年，第二版2004年）和《Introduction to Electrodynamics》（第一版1981年，第四版2012年）。

奖项与荣誉

1997年密立根奖，表彰他“对物理教育做出了杰出的学术贡献”。
