拜占庭的建立拜占斯是一位来自多利亚人(Dorian)城市墨伽拉(Megara)的希腊殖民者,他是尼索斯(Nisos)的儿子,尼索斯在德尔斐接受阿波罗的神谕。神谕指示拜占斯在“盲者之国”对岸定居,拜占斯领导一群墨伽拉殖民者找到迦克墩(Chalcedon)对岸,迦克墩位于博斯普鲁斯海峡及金角湾会合并流入马尔马拉海之处。他确定迦克墩人不知道对岸的条件较阿拉伯这一边优秀。公元前667年,他在欧洲建立拜占庭,完成了神谕的任务。波塞冬之子希腊神话里,拜占斯是波塞冬及姬罗伊莎(Keroessa)的儿子。宙斯与阿尔戈斯国王伊纳科斯的女儿伊俄相爱。宙斯暂时将他的情人变成牝牛,使她免受妻子赫拉的怒火波及。在她流浪的过程里,伊俄渡过博斯普鲁斯海峡,海峡因而得名(博斯普鲁斯海峡在希腊语解作牛涉水而过)。在伊俄恢复原貌后,她生下了女儿姬罗伊莎。姬罗伊莎后来为宙斯的长兄海神波塞冬诞下儿子,那就是拜占斯。

生平玛丽·毕克馥出生于加拿大多伦多,原名格拉迪斯·史密斯(GladysSmith)她父亲很早就去世了,6岁的玛丽·毕克馥就外出表演补贴家用,接下来的9年玛丽跟随家人在美国各地表演杂耍、喜剧等等。由于自身的努力,15岁时玛丽得到了百老汇制片人大卫·贝拉斯科(英语:DavidBelasco)的注意,在他的建议下玛丽启用了艺名玛丽·毕克馥。1908年,玛丽第一次遇到比沃格拉夫影片公司(英语:Biograph_Studios)的领导者,投入了大荧幕的演出。本来玛丽是跟朋友一块加入这家公司的,后来玛丽逐渐发现公司领导对她朋友的注意力超过了自己,于是她决定离开这家公司。这段时间中,玛丽嫁给了第一任丈夫,不过因为第一次世界大战的缘故两人最终离婚了。后来玛丽遇到了一个对她个人生活和职业生涯都颇具影响的人物,格拉斯·费尔班克斯。当时费尔班克斯是好莱坞最具影响力的男明星,两人在1920年成婚。联艺公司成立后,...
